Misconceptions about caregiving and aging can put older adults at risk.
A common assumption is that all older adults require care, when in fact most live independently and contribute actively to their communities. These ageist beliefs can lead to unnecessary restrictions, diminished autonomy, and, in some cases, increased vulnerability to abuse.
It is equally important to recognize that caregiving is complex and varies widely. Oversimplifying these dynamics—or blaming older adults for challenges—can obscure the real causes of harm and prevent meaningful solutions.
NCALL is committed to challenging these harmful myths.
As the only organization in the country solely dedicated to addressing abuse in later life, NCALL raises awareness, provides critical training and resources, and advocates for systems that fully support older adults.
We are just days away from World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) and we need your support!
