What We Do




What We Do

NCALL provides training and technical assistance on abuse in later life. Staff will respond to requests received via telephone, e-mail, regular mail and in person about specific cases or services. Staff members are also available to review materials and participate on state and national advisory committees. In addition, NCALL staff members are available to train audiences including professionals from domestic violence and sexual assault programs, the aging network, adult protective services, criminal justice, health care, faith based and other areas.

Technical Assistance and Consultation

We can:

  • Help plan or facilitate training events with national speakers
  • Research national or state resources
  • Problem solve about complicated cases or barriers within systems
  • Discuss potential aging or disability speakers or training topics
  • Draft or collaborate on newsletter articles on aging topics
  • Help with program development and planning—telephone or on site
  • Assist in development of protocol, policy and practice for systems and agencies

National Domestic Abuse in Later Life Resource Directory

NCALL has developed a comprehensive directory of services tailored to victims of domestic abuse in later life and their advocates, which will be updated regularly. Included are appendices listing nationwide resources, state domestic violence coalitions, state sexual assault coalitions, state adult protective services offices, elder shelters and support groups tailored to older women. Training

WCADV staff and speakers bureau members are available to provide training for your staff or community. Training topics include:

  • Dynamics of domestic abuse in later life
  • Coordinated responses to abuse in later life
  • Developing services for older victims of abuse
  • How to train about abuse in later life
  • Sexual assault as it relates to abuse in later life
  • Abuse against people with disabilities

Training Materials

NCALL has developed training materials for communities to educate service providers about domestic abuse in later life:

  • "Building a Coalition to Address Domestic Abuse in Later Life." This is a curriculum for communities interested in forming a collaboration to combat domestic abuse in later life. It includes a community assessment tool, training guide, and participant manual. Available now as a pdf download (Trainers Guide 1.64MB, Participants Manual 813KB).

  • Interactive Training Exercises on Abuse in Later Life The purpose of this manual is to provide trainers with directions for interactive exercises focusing on several key training points related to abuse of older persons and/or people with disabilities. The exercises are designed for multiple target audiences such as professionals from domestic violence/sexual assault, elder abuse/adult protective services, aging, health care, justice and others.
