NCALL’s New Older Victims of Crime Educators and Trainers Forum

In 2016, NCALL joined the National Resource Center for Reaching Victims (NRC) as a lead project partner along with eight other national organizations. The NRC’s vision is to support the capacity of the crime field to provide victim services that are accessible, culturally-responsive, and trauma-informed. Today, the NRC is a one-stop-shop where organizations and professionals can get information and resources to enhance their capacity to identify, reach, and serve crime victims who lack access to equitable healing and justice services.

At the very beginning of the NRC, NCALL called upon the field to find out what service gaps to address. A main priority identified was support for increasing capacity in the field to learn about resources and to train and educate on issues related to older victims of crime, and in particular older crime victims with limited access to services due to systemic inequity, racism, homophobia, ageism, and other institutional oppressions.

To address this need, NCALL is excited to announce the launch of the new Older Victims of Crime Trainers and Educators Forum!

The Older Victims of Crime Trainers and Educators Forum is an interactive peer-to-peer exchange where current and emerging trainers and educators can learn from each other by: sharing innovative ideas, effective education, and training resources; offering helpful tips and tools to use in their training work; and making connections on training topics impacting older crime victims.

The aim of this forum is to encourage critical dialogue, to share training and educational tools, and to, explore new ideas on how the field can equitably support older victims of crime.

Forum community members will have the chance to engage in conversations about:

  • Effective Approaches to Training and Facilitation
  • Ageism and its Impact on Accessing Services
  • Advancing Principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Considerations for Accessibility
  • Promoting Victim-centered Advocacy
  • Storytelling/Centering the Voices of Older Crime Victims
  • Resilience
  • Selected Resources and Statistics from the Crime Victims Field
  • Ongoing/Upcoming Training Opportunities
  • Other topics community members want to explore!

Register for the forum and join the conversation!
